I lived in Amman, Jordan from 2008-2009. When I first moved there every building looked the same. Over time I came to notice all the details that made each neighborhood unique. I lived in the neighborhood of Jabbal (hill) al’Webdeh which overlooked Jabbal Amman. Every evening around dusk, flocks of pigeons would be released from their respective homes on a rooftop, and would fly in circles. Owners would fix little bells on their feet that jingled as they flew. This sweet sound combined with the evening calls to prayer echoing across the hills made the evenings particularly magical.
