ABOUT BREATH FLAGS

Breath Flags is a collective and global art project that I started in early 2020
after the global pandemic shut down the world as we knew it.

It is a project about human connection, hope and peace.

The project invites people of all ages, all backgrounds, all beliefs, anywhere around the world to share a wish or hope for the future.

For every wish shared I meditate to create a unique symbol embodying its message.
I then paint it in communion with my breath onto a handmade flag.
The finished flags are meant to be installed together, outdoors in a place where the wind can catch them and carry the wishes skyward.

The piece is generative and evolving.
Flags and prints will be available for purchase in the coming months to support the project.

SUPPORT

This project is generously supported in part by a grant awarded by the Hudson Emergency Art Program in Spring of 2020.

The project has also supported by both curator Aaron Levi Garvey and founder Jonah Bokaer of Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation,
whose vision it was to feature it as part of their 2020 Hudson Eye Festival in Hudson, New York.

A special thank you also to the curatorial teams of Olana and Thomas Cole for their support and collaboration,
and to the New York State Bridge Authority for their guidance and support to realize the first ever installation in August 2020.
