Breath Flags I
Limited Edition Silkscreen Prints | November 2024
Dear Collector,
I am so excited to share this collection of limited edition original art prints finally available for you to purchase. A year in the making, this is a collection of thirty wishes from the Breath Flags project. Hand printed by me in my studio, on beautiful Hahnemulle papers, each and every original print bears a unique mark.
Launched in 2020, Breath Flags is an interactive and collaborative art project of hope and connection. Created in the midst of the COVID pandemic, its intention was to bring people together in positive intention. People of all ages from around the world submitted wishes and hopes for the future. Each wish was dedicated a symbol created by Filiz and then turned into a one-breath painting on a flag. The inaugural outdoor installation of the first 50 flags was in August 2020 - the first ever artwork commissioned to connect two historic art cultural sites in the Hudson Valley: Frederic Church’s Olana and Thomas Cole Site activated by the Hudson River Skywalk. Read more about the project here.
Now more than ever, it feels important to remember the power of uniting with collective positive intentions. My wish for the project is for it to keep growing. Have a dream you’d like to send into the wind? Share yours here.
Each purchased print comes with a hand-bound catalog sharing more about the project and each wish. Don’t miss your chance to buy a print before the edition runs out.
With gratitude and hope,
Filiz Soyak

What is an original art print?
An original art print is a unique work of art. It is not a reproduction of an existing work. It is completely original in its composition.
Serigraph paintings/prints take many weeks to complete. Then they’re printed by hand over many weeks or months.
Breath Flags I is the collection of thirty individual flags combined from 2020 and then uniquely arranged and painted directly onto a silkscreen.
The serigraph print is one color, but completely handmade from start to finish by Filiz herself. This piece took one entire year to complete.
What is a silkscreen print?
A silkscreen print (also known as a serigraph) is an original work of art made using a silkscreen frame to “print” or press onto a surface like paper. Silk (or a fine mesh nylon) is stretched over a wooden or aluminum frame. Silkscreen prints are made with stencils that are applied by the artist directly to the surface. A design is created directly onto the fiber surface, to create a negative or positive image, then ink is pressed through the negative space to leave an ink impression (print) on the substrate (paper, fiber, wood) underneath.
Silkscreen prints are hand made one-by-one. Each impression requires the artist or printmaker to move ink across the surface using a tool called a squeegee, which creates a handmade unique print and quality. Each silkscreen print from the same screen will vary slightly due to the handmade nature of the process.

What is a limited edition print?
A limited edition print is a series of prints made in a specific quantity that will not be repeated. In other words, it is limited, and once it is sold out, no more will be made. Only the best quality prints make it into the edition.
What comes with the print?
Each print will include a small hand-bound catalog with information about the project and each wish included in this print, and a Certificate of Authenticity.
Shipping
Each print will be packaged for protection in glassine paper, a plastic sleeve, and rolled up in a heavy duty tube. UPS or Fedex will be used for domestic shipping within the United States for both speed and tracking purposes. For international orders, a reliable shipping carrier will be chosen.
Additional information
All sales are final. Due to the care and the sensitive and difficult nature of packaging artwork, returns are not accepted. However, if a piece of artwork is damaged or has a noticeable flaw, please photograph the damage, write a detailed description, and send an email within 7 days of receipt to filiz@filizsoyak.com.
