NAGORI 名残 / 2012-2014
Nagori translates to "relic, memento, a remainder from the past" . This ongoing series of paintings explores:
What do relics and memories of our past experiences and travels look like? How are memories of a place and time stored? How do our senses log memories and then reconstruct them layered with our emotional impressions?
Inspired by my time and memories spent in places from Brooklyn to Tokyo, Istanbul to Amman, Bombay to Stockholm – these mixed media paintings are constructed similar to the urban relics I have found in the layers of paint, signs, graffiti, intentional and unintentional street art. Colors, shapes, textures, sights, sounds, tastes, smells...overlap, merge, and collide to capture a unique impression of time.
